Television interface to my computer

I am a Cox cable TV subscriber in Irvine California. I presently have
a Contour main box and two mini boxes for three TVs.

I would like to be able to watch a TV program carried by your service
using my computer. I suspect that it would be possible to connect the
coax cable from your mini box to an appropriate device that I could
acquire, which would then connect to my computer. Doing it that way,
I would need to use your remote control to change the selected channel.
Please confirm that this would work.

Is there any supported way to bypass your mini box and connect your
coax (1) directly to my computer or (2) though an adapter device I
could acquire? If that is possible, would I be able to change channels
using my software, or are all of your channels encrypted so that this
would fail? Is a mini box (or other box from you) necessary to decrypt
your signal?

Do you have any instruction documents on this topic for someone like me?
What would be your best recommendation to achieve my objectives?

Hello. You can watch programming from Cox, online without the need of a coax line or daisy chain. You can visit https://www.cox.com/residential/tv/watch-tv-online.html. You would sign in and have access to the same programming as your Contour box. I hope this information was helpful. Please let us know if we can assist further. Thank you!

"I would like to be able to watch a TV program carried by your service using my computer."

Cox has a website that allows you to do that.

https://watchtv.cox.com/listings

This link works without having to copy and paste it into a browser address bar and it goes directly to your program listings grid after signing in with your Cox credentials.

Thank you. But I use Linux. The latest versions of Firefox and Chrome (which I hate) won't access that URL. Cox claims I need to update my browser. Not possible.

At one time, https://watchtv.cox.com couldn't be accessed with MS Edge when uBlock Origin was enabled, but it can now.  If you have an adblocker enabled, disable it for this website and try Chrome again.  This website doesn't have any ads to be blocked anyway.   (I don't use Chrome anymore, or I would test it.  But when I did, I didn't use an adblocker and it could access this website).  Or you can install and use MS Edge.  I know that works, with or without an adblocker enabled.

MSEdge on Linux? Huh? My Chrome had no extensions installed (I never use it). Trying an "incognito" window did not help. My Firefox did have uBlock Origin but disabling it and trying in a private window did not help. The latest version of Chromium also did not work. I could try faking the user agent string but what value might work?

Apologies; Edge is available. Using a virgin installation, I get the same "upgrade your browser" complaint.

The https://watchtv.cox.com website would allow you to watch on your computer all the channels you can watch on your Contour box.  But there might be an issue when trying to access the website with a Linux computer.  That would seem to be the most obvious variable, but I don't know, so I can't say.

Using the email address provided by CurtB, I received a reply from Cox. It was essentially useless, just repeating the Cox web site's assertion that only Windows and MacOS can be used.

However, using a simple user agent impersonation, claiming to be a Windows Firefox installation, allows the web site to load. All channels I tried to watch failed to load, reporting an unknown error. I presume they are trying to load a particular video player. I have v4l installed. Maybe I can discover what they are trying to load...

Using the Cox web site might satisfy my desire for video on my computer. But bypassing all their restrictions by a direct connection to the cable, or via a mini box, might be a lot more flexible.
