New contour box has degraded pause functionality
We had a technician come out recently because our cable and internet went down, and he told us we could upgrade to a smaller wireless box that would have the same functionality. Unfortunately the new box has inferior pause functionality- we can only pause live tv for about 25 minutes before it starts again, and if we change channels we lose the pause. On the old box we could pause for an hour or so, and the pause would be maintained if we switched channels. If we had known we would lose this functionality we would not have paid $100 to get the new boxes installed. Is there anything that can be done to get this functionality back? Do we need to go back to a traditional wired DVR, or is there another wireless option that will give us better functionality?

Hi,
I understand your concern. The new wireless cable boxes and wired client boxes have about 30 minutes of pause time. The older main DVR boxes that contained hard drives had longer pause times. I believe you are correct, and it was about 1 hour. I apologize that the information was not provided to you before the boxes were upgraded. The boxes that do not have hard drives have memory buffers that are used for pausing. I apologize, we do not have any new boxes that support the longer pause time. If the older style boxes are still available in your area, then you can request to be switched back if you wish. In the meantime, if you expect to be away longer than 30 minutes, you can also press record to start recording the program you are watching, and then you can play the recording back when you return.
