DVR recordings being deleted overnight

I recently had my ARRIS DVR box replaced. I specifically declined having it replaced with a cloud DVR because I want to keep the recordings stored locally on my DVR box. Since it was replaced, I don't know what has happened on Cox's end, but my DVR recordings randomly and mysteriously get deleted overnight.  It has nothing to do with reaching memory capacity. What's going on?

Recordings being deleted overnight is a known issue that's been happening with Contour DVRs for at least 5 years.  What brand and model DVR did get when the Arris DVR was replaced?

It was replaced May 7, 2025 by Cox subcontractor Down 2 Earth. The tech couldn't get it to work. He opened a ticket with Cox. It was brought on line the next day. Since then, my recordings get automatically deleted over night.

I left a message with a Cox tech. I did not hear back. I called the local Cox store. The rep told me there must be a problem with the harddrive and to bring it in for replacement.

I should note, that when my original DVR failed in May, I was mailed a replacement DVR. It was used so I rejected it and drove 40 miles to have the "used replacement" replaced with what I was told was a "new" unit.  So the "new" DVR now has a defective harddrive. I'll drive another 40 miles again to replace the replacement DVR for my original DVR.

If Cox wasn't the monopoly on cable TV, I'd drop them in a nanosecond. Aren't there laws against monopolies? The Cox family are billionaires and was just acquired by Charter Communications. I hear Charter's customer service has a reputation that may be worse than Cox. I guess synchronous TV is destined to go the way of the dino, dodo, and PCM telephony all in the interest of the bottom line NOT quality.

Per your request, I emailed cox help over weekend. Today, I had the DVR replaced. I  requested a new box. I was told that Cox doesn't provide new equipment, only refurbished equipment. I took it home to install. The LEDs on the DVR are burnt out so it doesn't display the time. The setup process asked if I wanted to use my previous device (Cox remote XR11-RF)). Yes. The installation wouldn't continue. I was forced to use the new Cox remote XR15-RF that came with the refurbished DVR. The installation proceeded. It paired with my TV. It would NOT pair with my Bose audio equipment. I finished the installation then researched how to re-pair my old remote to the DVR and TV. Pairing was successful as well as with my Bose equipment. I will check back tomorrow to report on whether my recorded programs are still being deleted. By the way, the new Cox remote has removed the "Last" button, "Replay" button and "Setup" button.
