Cox DVR choices

I used to be a Cox TV service customer for about twenty years, up until 3 years ago when I moved to Sacramento. Now I'm back and I'm wondering what the options are in a Cox DVR since prior to this I only used a Tivo to access Cox programming. The Tivo seems to have gone away as an option, so I'm wondering if someone can tell me:

  1. Is there still a local-drive based Cox DVR being offered? If so, how does it compare in picture/sound quality to the cloud-based version?
  2. Is there a difference in picture/sound quality in terms of whether the input is coaxial versus digital?

Thanks,

Rob

Hello Rob. Thank you for your interest in the Cox DVR options. Using a cable card for TV options through Cox does limit the access. I certainly understand your desire for using the TiVo that you've had for years too. In some areas, this is still available but is subject to supply which may not be available. You can view the cable options at https://www.cox.com/residential/tv.html

Our new Contour system uses a cloud based DVR. This allows you to watch your DVR shows within your internet network from any device. I personally especially like this feature because my husband and I have college kids at home who tend to take over the TVs, but I can just log into the Cox app or watchcox.com and view my programs when I want to. The quality in my opinion is much better than traditional DVR cable boxes because the need for a working box is not a requirement. As well as if I want to change my cable box or view on one of the other cable boxes I dont have to record it into a hardware. Plus the storage space is much bigger and customers are able to manage this through their account online with ease. The downside is honestly the 1 year limitation to access those recorded programs. I get busy and sometimes forget to watch something, and then its gone. This is a big timeframe for most of the customers already using the feature. This new system also has 4K quality viewing if you have a compatible TV for 4K. Here is more information about it https://www.cox.com/residential/tv/learn/contour-tv-box-and-dvr.html

We would be happy to review any other questions you may have or even assist with pricing should you want to continue exploring these options. If you would like more information or have additional questions, please email us at cox.help@cox.com with your name, the address where you would like to have services and a link to this thread so that we can get started. Thank you.

The cox cloud DVR is slow to respond to fast forward, especially if it’s a multi-hour-recording. YouTubeTV responds to input much quicker.
