Static on landline telephone when it rains

I tried posting this before and it apparently didn't go through, so apologies if this winds up being posted twice!

Does anyone else have issues with their landline phone when it rains?  Over the past year, every time it rains, I lose my landline service and instead of a dial tone, I get static on the phone.  I have tried swapping out the modem for a new modem.  I've tried calling Cox Customer Service and they "send a signal to my phone," which never ever works.  I've had Cox tell me it's my phone itself (only when it rains?) or "the problem is your inside lines" (only when it rains?).  My phone jack is new.  But every time it rains, and ONLY when it rains, I lose my dial tone and get static on the phone line and can't make a call or receive incoming calls.   Then, after several days of dry weather with no rain, suddenly with no help from Cox, my dial tone returns.

It seems pretty clear there is a problem with an outside phone line getting wet in rainy weather and disrupting my phone service.  Is there any way to fix this, and does anyone else have this issue?

Hi Geri. If you have static on your home phone, then there is a short somewhere, and we need to have someone come and fix it.  To do this, please send am email to cox.help@cox.com and include your complete address and a link to this forums post so we know what is happening. Thanks, Lisa, Cox Support Forums Moderator

Issues can occur when it rains if you have a faulty tap that allows water inside the Cox equipment.  Contact Cox and request a tech visit.  If your dropline comes in from a pole, be sure to request a tech with a long ladder.  Ask to have your signal tested at the pole.  If the tech finds damaged equipment, he will escalate and a Cox tech will replace it.  If any issue is found on Cox's side of the demarc (box on side of your house), you won't be charged for the tech visit.

Thank you so much - I have notified Cox and asked for someone to come check everything outside.  Hopefully we can find the problem and get it taken care of!
