no porting

On March 9, 2023 I purchased a new cell phone from Cox and requested that my existing landline phone number with Cox be ported to my new Cox Cell Phone. After numerous calls with Cox and numerous promises and NO updates from them I still do not have service on my new Cox Cell Phone. April 24, 2023. What can I do? The new phone I purchased from Cox can only be used with Cox. I am still receiving bills from Cox for a non-existing service.

Wow, if they can't port one of their own number, I wonder what other problems they have. I wish you luck.

::edit:: One thing I found mention of is making sure your phone bill is all paid off for the port to complete.

It may not be able to be ported if the switch is different from the landline and the cell phone.

I think Cox Mobile is Verizon if that means anything. Either way, shouldn't it be a simple port? I have seen ports from Cox landline to Verizon cellular all the time. Tell me more about this switch limitation.

I meant to say RATE Center.

My telephone number Wire center - if  moved to williamsburg, I could not keep that phone number as a landline number because it would have to be on a different rate center.

+1 Thanks. I also found this post on the subject.

1.) The ported number must be in the same rate center that you reside in. In other words, if you are moving from one location to another, the phone number must be within the same rate center in order to be ported over. If the phone number crosses rate centers, the port cannot take place
2.) The customer's name must match exactly what is on their account with the other provider.
3.) Customers must keep the telephone number active with the other service provider, in order for the port to be successful. The telephone service is then canceled through the other provider once the port completes.

I am not moving. The landline phone and new cox cell phone are in the same building. I am not changing providers. This is all with Cox. The land line has been with Cox for 20 years. The cell phone is new, purchased from Cox. My simple request to port my land line number to my new cell phone has been unsuccessful. We have turned off the WiFi, took out the SIM and replaced it, I even tired signing in to Cox with Edge instead of Chrome. Nothing. I tried contacting Verizon since Cox is a MVNO with them. But no dice. Since I am not a customer I got nowhere.
