Move phone number

I am moving from Valley Telecom area to a Cox area. I want to bring my old phone number with me to Cox.    When I contact Cox support thy say the number is not available and they can not do it. The nuber is available my VTC account is still open and being held open specificall to make it available for porting.   Cos support refuses to sent the inter connection request to VTC and say they don't know how to do it.   I need name and contact information for some one at Cox that knows how to request the number forwarding
