The Cox Transition Has Been a Disaster—And the Hurricane Isaias Response Proved It
Inherited from Cox and left completely in the dark: No service since the 9th, useless alerts, and spotty support.
I am posting here to formally voice my absolute disappointment and frustration with how Spectrum has handled its recent transition following the acquisition of Cox Communications.
Like many former Cox customers, I was well aware of Spectrum’s historically spotty reputation. However, I consciously chose to set those preconceptions aside and give this company the complete benefit of the doubt. I assumed that a telecom giant executing a major corporate takeover would prioritize a stable, seamless operational transition. Instead, my optimism was entirely misplaced. Spectrum has proven every piece of negative feedback it has ever received to be entirely accurate.
Since being forced under the Spectrum umbrella, the drop-off in basic network reliability and customer care has been staggering. My connection has become completely inconsistent. It is riddled with unprompted lagging, random dropouts, and instability that I rarely, if ever, dealt with when I was with Cox.
But the final straw has been Spectrum's abysmal handling of the recent Hurricane Isaias response.
I have been completely without internet service since the storm hit land on the 9th.
While severe weather is understandable, Spectrum's post-storm execution and communication have been a textbook definition of failed customer support. We were explicitly told to sign up for text alerts to stay informed, but these notifications have been completely useless. They provide little to no actual information and offer absolutely no Estimated Time of Repair (ETR)—just generic, automated corporate filler while we sit in the dark.
Frontline forum moderators and phone agents seem entirely unequipped to give real answers on tech migration issues or localized storm repairs. Attempting to get accountability from customer service has been exhausting. The corporate indifference to people who rely on this connection for their daily lives and work is unacceptable.
Spectrum had a massive opportunity to use this acquisition to prove the critics wrong and win over a base of loyal Cox users. Instead, you have tanked our service quality, delivered incredibly lame customer support, and completely let us down during a major storm recovery.
I expect a full, prorated billing credit applied to my account for every single day I have been left without service since the 9th. I was elated when my service came back online last night, but now it just comes on and off, over and over.
Are any other former Cox subscribers on this forum dealing with the exact same steep drop-off in reliability and support? How is Spectrum addressing the ongoing instability for migrated accounts in storm-impacted areas? We deserve real answers, not more scripted excuses.

Hi, there. I know how frustrating it is to wait for services to be restored after a storm, and not having an estimated repair time makes waiting even more difficult. In some instances, a segment of a node may be taken offline to facilitate the repair of another area. This is why the outage will be an estimate and may change. Here is an update for you:
- Service has been restored to 92% of customers in affected areas
- We expect full recovery in areas that our crews can safely access by end of the day Sunday
- In some areas we can’t complete repairs until roads are clear and power is back on—keep in that while customers may have power, there may be damage or loss of power affecting a part of our network that supplies service to a specific area or neighborhood
- We are committed to improving communications in the future, and apologize for not keeping you as informed as we should
If you have any account specific issues, please reach out to us on Twitter at @CoxHelp, or visit us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/coxcommunications. Thank you, again for your patience. -Chris
