Panoramic WiFi modem connection is hot

I have a 2-3 month old modem running on a small table with nothing near it and full 360 ventilation. But  when my internet went out recently, I noticed the metal fitting where the coaxial cable plugs in is very hot to the touch. I bought a new cable, but it’s still hot. Is this a problem? Fire hazard? Could it be causing my internet to shut down? I know I could trade it in for a different one, but that causes the headache of having to reconnect all the devices on WiFi. I don’t want to go through that if I’m going to have the same problem. I have the 1gig Go Super Fast plan. Is the modem compatible with that? Thanks in advance for any advice. I’m currently chatting with Cox and all they want to do is upsell my plan 🙄

Hi,

All of our Panoramic WiFi modems are designed to run warm to the touch on the plastic housing. It may feel uncomfortable if you leave your hand on it for more than a few seconds, but it will not burn you. The metal ports may feel hotter, but they are operating within normal range.

The modem is equipped with built-in overheat protection, so it will automatically power off if it gets too hot. It also has an internal cooling fan. If you place your ear near the vents, you should be able to hear or feel the fan running. Your modem fully supports up to 2 Gig service, so a 1 Gig plan will not cause any overheating issues.

We want to help resolve any concerns you're having with your service. We’d be happy to troubleshoot this further with you or schedule a tech visit if needed. Please feel free to contact us at cox.help@cox.com.
