Is (877) 316-1403 a legit Cox Communications phone call?

Received a call from 1+ (877) 316-1403.  It was labeled Cox Cimmunications.  I started to let it go to voicemail (wish I had), but we have been having internet issues in my area, so I answered it.  It was a man, with an accent, who knew my name, trying to sell an upgrade to a higher speed internet.  I informed him I didn’t discuss business with anyone I didn’t call myself.  He tried to give he the call back number, and I said I would not use any number I didn’t find on the website.  So, was this actually from Cox or was is a scammer?

auntiemame2, Thank you for contacting Cox about this issue. This seems to NOT be a valid Cox number. The fact that Communications was misspelled, is the #1 clue. You were certainly correct not to discuss anything with this caller. Cox Outbound Sales calls should show from valid Cox numbers found on our website, for your area.

Well, the misspelling is my typo,; I didn’t copy & paste from the phone call log.

The misspelled word is my typo; I didn’t copy & paste from the phone call log.  Finding a contact phone number for Cox area sales is challenging.  The only one I found was 1-800-234-3993.  

So you are saying that (877) 316-1403 is definitely NOT a legitimate Cox number, and I should report it as spam and block it.

Amy, it may be the cell phone number of a 3rd party Sales Rep/Agency, but we cannot confirm that. We can just advise that this is not a Cox standard number used for communications. You can always call in directly or email us at Cox.Help@cox.com. We can also check for any promotional offers that are available. 

Yes, 1-800-234-3993 is the main number you can call.
