Internet Ultimate 300 and supported modem and router.

I have just upgraded to internet ultimate 300, and got the Panoramic Gateway. Question is: Can we not using the panoramic gateway? I want to separate the modem and the router. Do you have any recommendation on the modem and router that I should use?
