I switched from cox cable wifi to their fiber optic panaromic network after 16 years. My data usage shows a 1000% increase from what my data usage was in past year. In past 15 days from the time it was installed 2 tech support agents checked their data meters and agreed to send technicians who just complained about the installer and probably tightened a few wires. Problem remains unresolved.

Every time I call customer support they try to sell me a mobile phone line and unlimited data plan. I suspect Cox is trying to sign up customers for higher data plans by scaring them with higher data readings. I hope state attorney generals look in the matter as it seems like something worth investigating

Faster internet increases usage. When streaming, the apps and programs see the increased bandwidth and up their resolution, which can dramatically increase usage. For instance, Netflix HD resolution can use up to 3gb/hr, but if it see's increased bandwidth, it may go to Ultra HD which uses up to 7 GB/Hr. That's easily more than double right there. Hulu, pretty much the same. Amazon prime goes from 2.25 to over 7 an hour. That's a 3x increase PLUS!

I don't think all areas enforce caps, but I think they are included in all ToS. Either way, Spectrum doesn't have hard caps anywhere. Bandwidth is so cheap now caps shouldn't even be a thing. That's why Cox magically doesn't need them in areas with stiff competition.
