Scheduled DVR Recording Didn't Work

Last night I scheduled the Angels first spring training game to record today on Fox Sports West HD (1064). The channel guide showed the game was scheduled for noon today, which matched with what I knew the actual game time to be. I sat down to watch this recording late this afternoon but found it was not in my list of recordings.

I checked the channel guide and it was now showing other programming took place at noon and the game was showing as scheduled at 3:00 pm. Yet, the game wasn't on during this 3:00 pm time period. I looked online and saw that the game did get played at its scheduled time of noon. Unfortunately, I also found out the score which totally ruined the experience of seeing the game unfold without knowing the outcome.

I called Cox support to report this incident. Ater waiting 15 minutes on hold the rep, who was pleasant enough, put me on hold for five minutes to check on something. When she came back she didn't seem to have any explanation. She suggested a box reset, which she did, saying she wanted to see if it had an effect on the program schedule. It didn't and she said she'd report the issue. I asked for a call back to let me know what the issue was and how it was resolved. She took my number, but I somehow get the feeling I'll never get that call.

Being a diehard fan I still wanted to watch to see how things played out. I saw on the guide that the game was scheduled to be repeated at 10:00 pm so I set another recording for that time. I checked shortly after 10:00 pm and saw the game had just ended. So, now I've missed another opportunity to see this game because the guide is obviously wrong and now I'm realizing that it looks like the guide is on eastern time.

This sort of thing is very frustrating for viewers. How does it happen and how can it be prevented?
