Recent Disconnects

For the past month or two I have been randomly been disconnected from the internet. Before a month or two ago this has never happened and I was never disconnected from my internet. For example, lately when I am talking to friends or family over skype they tell me that I sound "laggy" and randomly it logs me off and I am disconnected from my internet for about 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes I am able to use my internet again, but this keeps happening and want to know what is happening and how to fix it. Someone please help.
