My Game Sporatically Lags

I've just recently switched to Cox because the network speeds are so "fast". I've been playing an online game for the last 10 years and was hoping to get the upper hand with a fast network speed. Instead I get lag and jitter every minute or so. I'm playing medal of honor allied assault on a dedicated private server. I never experienced the lag until switching to Cox. I notice there are several similar posts on this forum. My router is the Cox supplied Netgear CG3000DVS. When I ping the server with a hundred pings, most all pings talk back with a good response however, two talk back at high rates (1972 ms and 3575 ms).
