Limited internet access wifi connection

Recently had Cox alarm installed and soon after mobile app would not connect to  device to turn on/off alarm.  I would receive a broadband connection error message. Called Cox sent a tech out and alarm works, but laptop will no longer connect via wifi. Have spent hours trouble shooting, any suggestions? I have done the power cycle with modem & routers.  Laptop not finding IP address from router.
