Cost to add additional HD receiver?

I have a Contour DVR (GSH9865) in one room. I want to add the ability to receive Cox HD channels (not just local) to a TV in another room. I suspect that adding a whole home client box will be problematic and cost upwards of $20, so perhaps adding  a High-Definition (HD) Receiver (no DVR) at $8.50 will do the trick. Is $8.50 the total cost per month to receive all HD channels or do I have to pay additional charges?

I realize that CableCARD would be cheaper but don't want to buy a separate tuner, especially since CableCARD has been killed by the House and the Senate may agree soon.

TiffanyR, please tell me the cost of the installation charge that Domino mentioned. I already have an outlet on the second TV and can pick up the HD receiver cable box from your store and attach it myself, to avoid a charge.

Thanks to Domino & Bryan for your excellent information. That's good news on CableCARD's long-term viability.

Because the $8.50/month HD receiver cable box and installation charge is greater than a $2/month CableCARD (without installation charge I hope?) and because of Bryan's comments, I want to look at the CableCARD solution more seriously.

I have read about the Samsung Smart Media Player GX-SM530CF on a forum - http://www.avsforum.com/forum/25-hdtv-technical/1498949-samsung-gx-sm530cf-cablecard-tuner-media-streamer.html . Does it work with Cox's CableCARD? Samsung says a Cisco CableCARD can be installed. Will I also need a tuning adapter and, if so, does Cox supply it? Does anyone have experience with the GX-SM530CF? Is it a simple and affordable solution or are there better alternatives?

There will be an additional installation charge for the bedroom outlet. Then, $8.50/month for the STB. Don't get the WHDVR setup unless you're REALLY SURE that you want it.

OK, Clarification time here, let's report facts.

STELA Reauthorization Act of 2014 - Title I: Communications Provisions
(Sec. 105) Repeals an integration ban that prohibits certain MVPDs from placing in service new navigation devices (set-top boxes) for sale, lease, or use that perform both conditional access (mechanisms that provide for selective access and denial of specific services and can prevent a signal from being received by unauthorized users) and other functions in a single integrated device.

The STELA bill, just repeals the mandate that MSOs must use separable security (CableCARDs) in their own equipment.  It does not end the requirement to support retail CableCARDs.

The House vote (STELA bill), Would end the requirement for Cable MSOs to only use separable security (CableCARDs) in their own equipment going forward.  Since there have been 47 Million STB/DVRs already deployed by the major MSOs with CableCARDs and those Cable Cos will not be replacing them for many years to come, they WILL still be supported.  As will Retail CableCARDs.

Cox has certainly locked itself into continuing support and usage of CableCARDs and separable security, for the foreseeable future, by using only Cisco as their platform for the Contour system. In Motorola systems the only way that is possible is through the use of Motorola CableCARDs in Cisco boxes, and the interoperability that separable security provides.

Will CableCARDs someday be unsupported, probably yes, But, not in the foresable future.
